Gregor Ftičar (1985 Kranj, Slovenia) received his Master's degree in Jazz Piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria in 2011.

Over the years he has had the opportunity to work with many of the best internationally recognized jazz instrumentalists and singers (Don Menza, Bob Brookmeyer, Boško Petrović, Howard Curtis, Derrick Gardner, Francis Mbappe, Peter Herbolzheimer, Doug Hammond to name a few), played in various big bands (Austria, Czechia and Slovenia) and in numerous combos (duos, trios and quartets up to the “nine-piece band”) and as a solo pianist. He has participated in studio recordings (as a sideman and leader), played in jazz clubs and festivals all over Europe (Slovenia, Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Germany, Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia, Czechia, Hungary). Although Gregor's main occupation is piano (& keyboard and organ), he is also a dedicated arranger and composer.

In July 2014, Gregor's piano trio performed in the finals of the European Jazz Competition (organized by the European Broadcasting Union) in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In September 2014 Gregor played in the European Jazz Orchestra and toured in Czechia. In the same year he co-founded the jazz sextet “Sharp 6”. In 2017 he released his debut album “Gregor Ftičar: Solo” (on the ZKP RTV Slovenia label), which consists of his own compositions and arrangements. He is currently co-leading "NorthEast" trio, based in Geneva, and we can expect a new album to be released in early 2020. Since 2019, Gregor has been teaching Jazz Piano and Improvisation at the University of Ljubljana.

SPEECHLESS – silent movies with live soundtracks. In enchanting atmospheres of movie theatres, the union of cinema and music is brought back to life. The memories of 35 millimetre reels, buzzing in the back of the back of the hall and throwing their flickering light onto the screen; a last cough in the attentive audience, while the musicians briefly tune their instruments as the lights dim…

Movie details: Excerpts from Der heilige Berg, Die weisse Hölle vom Piz Palü, Stürme über dem Montblanc, Germany, 1926, 1929, 1931. Directed by Dr. Arnold Fanck. Featuring Luis Trenker, Leni Riefenstahl, Sepp Rist, a.o.
